Dreaming You Will Always Dream For Me

The Dream & The Dreamer

What is a dream? Though questioned throughout recorded history, there's no universally agreed upon definition of dreaming. What is known is that while we sleep we are presented with story-like images that do not seem to make logical or 'real world' sense. Except in the case of lucid dreaming, people do it without knowing they are doing so. Studies show that before 1960, most people dreamed in black and white and that most people dream of the same things. Dreams have been described physiologically as a response to neural processes during sleep, psychologically as reflections of the subconscious, and spiritually as messages from God or predictions of the future.

These sequence of images, sounds and feelings we experience while sleeping continue to confound many despite all of the research and studies based around dreams. Much of our understanding of dreams comes from well known names from the distant past, Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud, who identified dreams as an interaction between the unconscious and the conscious. The common comparison of dreams to a psychosis makes a lot of people disregard dreams entirely. Others accept dreams as simply our brain trying to figure things out, imagination or fantasies. And often people won't discuss their dreams for fear of revealing their deepest fears and desires or that their dream will be taken literal to the events in the dream.

The universally accepted definitions of a dreamer are: a visionary, an idealist, one who lives in a world of fantasy and imagination, and a habitually impractical person. It's no surprise that it's so common for the dreamer to dismiss their dreams as impractical or fantastical by nature. But we are all dreamers. And we all dream.

Power Beyond Consciousness

What do dreams mean? Let's start with the subconscious mind or the power beyond consciousness. There is much to understand about the power of the subconscious mind, but it is distinctly different in the fact that it is capable of storing much more information than our conscious mind. It stores every bit of information from our past, present and, yes, our future. As we move through life, our experiences provide information to our conscious mind which is then passed, or stored away, in our subconscious mind. When our conscious mind needs information from the subconscious mind, we request it through methods like thought, meditation, talking to ourselves, prayer or other methods depending on our personal believes. Then the subconscious mind reflects the information back to the conscious mind in ways we are typically and unconsciously aware of such as dreams. These reflections are messages which contain symbols and signs. Past analysis has provided universal meanings to certain symbols in our dreams. With the capabilities of the subconscious mind, we are able to predict our future. With the proper understanding of the messages, we are able to consciously predict our future.
